Daphna Edwards Ziman, Founder and Chairperson

Daphna Edwards Ziman began her career in the entertainment industry when she founded Unicorn Records, the first punk rock record company in the world. She was nominated for a Grammy as a record producer for the "the Riper, the Finer" album, the band she has signed "Black Flag" had the longest running number one album on the independent chart. Daphna went on to work with MTV as a consultant and direct videos and movies. Mrs. Ziman is the President of an independent film and television production company, Edwards Entertainment International. Mrs. Ziman has written, directed, and produced films including Footsteps, which screened on Showtime and recently won a Viewer's Choice Award in Europe.

As Chairperson and Founder of Children Uniting Nations, Mrs. Ziman committed herself to creating systemic changes that positively impact the lives of at-risk and foster children. She pioneered the L.A. County Mentoring Model, which presents a viable solution to the challenges facing children in foster care and a pilot program for national replication. In addition, Mrs. Ziman has been an integral part in the founding of homeless missions and a school in East Los Angeles for gang members.

With equal tenacity, Mrs. Ziman serves on the Women's Leadership Board of Harvard University, on the Board of the California Council of Humanities, and on the Board of HIPPY. She is a past member of the Executive Board of The Woman's Leadership Forum, chaired by Tipper Gore, which is dedicated to bringing women into the political arena in order to become a force of change for all areas relating to women, children, and the community. Mrs. Ziman was honored with a 1999 Peace & Tolerance Lifetime Achievement Award for Child Advocacy at the 'International Day for Tolerance Lifetime Achievement Awards,' sponsored by DeCapo Foundation, Friends of the United Nations and Children Uniting Nations. In 2002, Mrs. Ziman was given the "Congressional Angels in Adoption Award" from the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute. Mrs. Ziman also received the "Jacqueline Kennedy Award" from JFK University, the "Women of Achievement Award" by North American Council for Adoptable Children, and the "Uniting Children of the World Award" by the Child Welfare League of America.

Along with her husband, Richard, she has been an active supporter and serves on the board of The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles Hineni Society, and together they Co-Chaired UJC's National King David Society Weekend in Los Angeles. The Jewish Home for the Aged, City of Hope, AIPAC, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel Bonds, and the Stephen S. Wise Temple are among the many organizations with which Mr. and Mrs. Ziman are deeply involved.
