Relationship- Based Mentoring
Relationship mentoring requires a minimum commitment of one (1) year and two (2) days per month building a strong, healthy bond. Activities include one-on-one outings in the community (Outings can only occur after probationary period and consent of treatment team), designed by you and your mentee (movies, sporting events, museums, libraries, and outdoor activities...whatever you two like to do together!) as well as group acitivities and events provided by mPLAY. Academic Mentoring
Academic mentoring requires a minimum commitment of one (1) academic year providing two-three (2-3) hours per week. Mentoring includes on-site activities designed to boost a child's academic achievement through tutoring and educational games. Special Events Mentoring (One Day Event)
If you think you might be interested in spending time with a youth in foster care, but are uncertain...just try spending one day with a mentee at a Children Unilting Nations outreach event. Take part in the Day of the Child enjoying rides, food, games and meeting the mentees' favorite pop and movie stars, or witness a baseball game at Dodger Day with a foster child...no further commitment is required. Be a Friend
If you do want to stay in touch after participating in a single day event, but you don't feel you can commit to becoming Relationship-Based or and Academic Mentor, become a Friend. Friends are like pen pals send appropriate letters, cards, and gifts...perhaps an occasional visit with your mentee at their home. Give touch of kindness to let them know you care!
